Phan Thiet Transport Port Project in Binh Thuan Province was established in 1997 by Waterway Construction Consultant Company and approved by the Chairman of Binh Thuan Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 2437 QD / UB-BT dated November 18, 1997. Dossier of construction technical design to establish the total cost estimate prepared by Waterway Construction Consultant Company in 1998 approved by the Chairman of Binh Thuan Provincial People's Committee in Decision No. 2091 QD / CTUB-BT dated October 16, 1998 and Decision No. 2114 QD / CT.UBBT on August 29, 2001.
On August 27, 2013, the People's Committee of Binh Thuan Province issued Decision No. 2041 / QD-UBND approving the results of selecting investors for Package No. 02, Transport Port Project in Phan Thiet and Phan City. Setting, Binh Thuan province, the winning unit is Trung Nguyen Steel Company Limited and Trung Nguyen Mining and Construction Material Joint Stock Company. Project implementation scale according to the detailed planning, the rate of 1/500, Phan Thiet transport port, Phan Thiet city, Binh Thuan province was approved in Decision No. 1754 / QD-UBND dated 10/09/2012 .
On January 29, 2015, Contract No. 01 / HD-CVTPT on the investment in implementing Phan Thiet Transport Port project signed between Binh Thuan Department of Transport and Joint Venture of Trung Nguyen Steel Company and the Company Trung Nguyen Mining and Production Materials Joint Stock Company (the leading member of the Joint Venture is Trung Nguyen Steel Company Limited).
On October 12, 2018, Vietnam Maritime Administration issued Decision No. 1611 / QD-CHHVN on the Decision to announce the opening of Phan Thiet Harbor. Being able to receive ships: transport ships (passengers, goods) from the shore to Phan Thiet - Phu Quy island, general cargo ships with a tonnage of up to 1,000 DWT.
